The Financial Intelligence Agency is pleased to provide an update on the progress of the construction of its new office building project at Plot 4724, Gaborone, which has now reached approximately 94% completion. This milestone represents significant progress towards the establishment of a modern, secure, and purpose-built facility tosupport the Agency’s mandate of safeguarding the integrity of Botswana’s financial system.

The project has advanced steadily across key construction areas, with the main structural works substantially completed. External works, internal partitioning, electrical installations, plumbing, mechanical systems, and finishing activities currently at advanced stages. The building is beginning to reflect the intended vision of a professional, functional, and future-ready headquarters, designed to accommodate the Agency’s operational, administrative, and stakeholder engagement needs.

Once completed, the new FIA building will provide improved office accommodation, enhanced security features, dedicated meeting and training spaces, and better facilities for staff and visitors. Furthermore, the facility is expected to strengthen coordination, improve workflow efficiency, and support the Agency’s increasing responsibilities in receiving, analysing, and disseminating financial intelligence. The design also takes into consideration the need for confidentiality, controlled access, and a working environment suitable for sensitive financial intelligence operations.

The Agency recognizes the importance of facility infrastructure in enabling effective service delivery. As the financial crime landscape continues to evolve, the new building will play an important role in positioning the FIA to respond more effectively to emerging risks, support collaboration with competent authorities, and enhance engagement with reporting entities and other stakeholders.
